From Symbolic Proliferation to Structural Coherence A Comprehensive Clarification and Re-Architecture of Jungian Psychology Through Multidimensional Self-Regulation
Abstract
Carl Jung’s analytical psychology remains influential across psychotherapy, cultural theory, and popular discourse. Yet its contemporary clinical utility is limited by symbolic excess, conceptual redundancy, and unresolved metaphysical assumptions. Jungian constructs such as the Self, ego, shadow, anima/animus, psychic energy, transcendent function, synchronicity, and individuation are frequently treated as discrete ontological entities rather than as overlapping descriptions of functional psychological processes. This interpretive drift has contributed to theoretical ambiguity, clinical misapplication, and the conflation of symbolic phenomenology with regulatory mechanism. This paper offers a two-stage architectural clarification and re-organization of Jungian psychology. Model A provides a structurally faithful clarification of Jung’s original system, translating symbolic terminology into an explicit functional architecture while preserving conceptual intent. Model B introduces a re-architected multidimensional framework grounded in intrinsic self-regulation, temporal sequencing, and dimensional organization, integrating prior work on psychological architecture, individuation, time dynamics, and pathology (Chu Nguyễn Đức Dũng, 2025a; 2025b; 2025c; 2025d). The aim is translational rather than corrective. Symbolic language is retained where it accurately captures phenomenology, while functional explanation is reserved for structural and regulatory analysis. By consolidating proliferated Jungian constructs into coherent regulatory categories and situating them within a multidimensional self-regulatory architecture, this paper preserves the depth of analytical psychology while restoring conceptual rigor, clinical safety, and theoretical coherence.
