The Symbolic Era and The Solstice Rational Calendar (SE–SRC)
Abstract
A physics-anchored, evolution-aware framework for measuring time. This publication introduces two tightly coupled systems: The Symbolic Era (SE)A long-horizon year-numbering convention that situates the present within the full arc of behaviorally modern Homo sapiens, beginning ~20,000 years before the Common Era, at the emergence of symbolic cognition (art, ritual, abstract thought). The Solstice Rational Calendar (SRC)A civil calendar defined by a measurable astronomical event: the solstice at apparent solar longitude 270°. Years begin at the solstice instant, not at a culturally selected midnight, and dates are expressed using ordinal day numbering. SE provides historical and cognitive perspective. SRC provides physical precision and reproducibility. Together, they form a minimal, explicit, and globally computable time framework that is compatible with UTC and modern infrastructure while restoring a truthful human timescale. This document is written for readers who value clarity, rigor, and first principles.
