The Cognitive Atrophy Paradox in the Age of AI (Text-Only Version)
Abstract
This paper explores human cognitive transformation in the era of generative AI, conceptualized as AI-Induced Cognitive Atrophy (AICICA). It examines two contrasting cognitive profiles: memory-oriented, high-IQ individuals who are vulnerable to the Sovereignty Trap, and ADHD individuals who often experience cognitive supercompensation through AI-assisted scaffolding. The concept of Generative AI Addiction Disorder (GAID) is discussed, highlighting the risks of compulsive AI engagement. Finally, the paper proposes a unified framework for adaptive cognition in the AI era, emphasizing the role of AI as an external cognitive prosthetic rather than a substitute for thinking.
