Preserving Meaning, Discarding Detail: A Recurring Pattern Across Mathematics
Abstract
This repository contains the source and compiled PDF for the paper Preserving Meaning, Discarding Detail: A Recurring Pattern Across Mathematics. The paper is an expository and conceptual work identifying a common structural pattern underlying several classical mathematical constructions that are usually treated independently. It shows how Möbius inversion, Galois connections and adjunctions, Fourier duality, and the theory of invariants can all be understood as manifestations of the same underlying mechanism: the extraction of stable, interpretable information under transformations that reduce resolution. Rather than proposing a new formal theory, the paper provides a unifying conceptual lens that explains why these constructions recur across domains and why they are effective. The emphasis is explanatory and cross-disciplinary, aimed at mathematicians, students, and researchers interested in structural patterns that connect combinatorics, algebra, analysis, and category-theoretic thinking. The repository includes a self-contained LaTeX source file, the compiled PDF, and minimal documentation for reuse and citation.
