Abstract

The Thermodynamic Consciousness Relation (TCR) v15.0 quantifies whether a system is conscious via scalar field Ψ = Θ√(Π·G·I·T·Ω)·R with dual criterion (Ψ > 0.001 AND Θ > 0.85), achieving 100% classification accuracy across 101 systems. However, TCR v15.0 does not assess the quality of conscious experience—whether life is predominantly pleasurable, neutral, or suffering-dominated. We introduce Axiom 8 (Φ_hedonic), quantifying hedonic quality via temporal integration of valence V(t) ∈ [-1, +1] weighted by consciousness magnitude Ψ(t): Φ_hedonic = (1/T) ∫₀ᵀ V(t)·Ψ(t) dt where T is lifespan. Valence V(t) is operationalized via five empirical proxies: neurotransmitter levels (dopamine, serotonin, cortisol), behavioral approach/avoidance, facial expression (FACS), physiological markers (HRV, skin conductance), and self-report (humans only). Multi-proxy consensus (median) ensures robustness. Five novel predictions (P16–P20) are derived: captive dolphins (Φ ≈ +0.042, 4× human baseline), advanced meditators in jhana states (Φ ≈ +0.0016, low absolute but high valence given reduced Ψ), domesticated vs wild rabbits (ΔΦ ≈ +0.020, 400% improvement), major depressive disorder vs euthymic humans (ΔΦ ≈ +0.039), and propofol anesthesia (Φ_during = 0, consciousness eliminates hedonic contribution). Clinical applications include: objective quality-of-life metrics for palliative care (maximizing Φ×T rather than survival alone), animal welfare policy (quantifying captivity conditions), depression treatment response (tracking ΔΦ as objective endpoint), and utilitarian ethics (replacing Bentham's qualitative calculus with quantitative Φ). TCR v16.0 extends consciousness science from binary detection (is it conscious?) to hedonic assessment (how good is that consciousness?), providing the first rigorous framework for measuring subjective quality of life across species, states, and interventions. Is supplement to :https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18383577 This paper introduces Axiom 8 (hedonic quality) as the eighth axiom of the Thermodynamic Consciousness Relation (TCR), extending the theory from binary consciousness detection to quantitative assessment of subjective experience quality. The extension was developed through collaborative dialogue with Claude (Anthropic), as acknowledged in the paper. All formalization, empirical validation protocols, and responsibility for the content remain solely with the author. For questions or collaboration: samuelsilva.research@proton.me
