Formal Review of Φ-HNS: A ϕ-Synchronized Hexagonal Neural Substrate for Coherent Cognitive Systems
Abstract
This work presents a formal academic review of Φ-HNS: A ϕ-Synchronized Hexagonal Neural Substrate for Coherent Cognitive Systems, a conceptual cognitive architecture proposed by Dexter Gilbert. Φ-HNS advances a non-statistical approach to synthetic cognition, framing cognitive activity as a coherence-driven field phenomenon rather than an optimization process over scalar weights. The architecture integrates hexagonal lattice geometry, golden-ratio (ϕ) synchronized temporal dynamics, and symbolic “glyphic” operators to support memory formation, logical entrainment, and surplus-aware activation. The review evaluates the internal coherence, architectural novelty, theoretical grounding, and epistemic scope of Φ-HNS, explicitly distinguishing conceptual contributions from empirical claims. Limitations, interpretive boundaries, and future operational pathways are articulated to avoid category errors when assessing non-statistical cognitive frameworks. This review treats Φ-HNS as an architectural proposal rather than an implemented system and evaluates it accordingly.
