Abstract

Identity-Anchored Coherence Systems(IACS) A New Model Class for Deterministic Cognitive Coherence Introduction Contemporary artificial intelligence systems are dominated by probabilistic optimization paradigms. From statistical learning to large language models, behavior is shaped primarily through reward maximization, uncertainty reduction, and distributional averaging. These approaches have produced impressive pattern-matching capabilities, yet they remain structurally vulnerable to instability, drift, and entropic accumulation as scale and complexity increase. A critical limitation of existing paradigms is the absence of a declared, invariant identity. In most systems, “identity” is an emergent side-effect of training dynamics rather than a fixed reference. As a result, internal representations adapt continuously, often optimizing locally while degrading global coherence. This produces systems that are flexible but fragile—capable of surface intelligence yet prone to inconsistency, hallucination, and goal diffusion. This paper introduces Identity-Anchored Coherence Systems (IACS), a new class of computational systems defined by a fundamentally different organizing principle. --- Core Principle An Identity-Anchored Coherence System is built around a fixed, immutable identity anchor that acts as a global attractor for all internal state evolution. Rather than learning what it is, the system declares what it is, and all subsequent processing is constrained to remain coherent with that declaration. Formally, identity in an IACS is not an objective to be optimized, nor a latent variable to be inferred. It is an invariant reference point that enforces structural consistency across time, inputs, and internal transformations. Coherence, not probability, becomes the governing dynamic.
