Management and Outcomes of Hypertensive Crises in Yaounde, Cameroon: A Retrospective Analysis
Abstract
This retrospective study of 181 patients in Cameroon found hypertensive crises accounted for 8% of relevant admissions. Treatment relied heavily on calcium channel blockers (74.5%), mostly as monotherapy (78%). Despite this, in-hospital mortality was very high at 16.6%. Outcomes were favorable in 76.2% of cases, but chronic kidney disease was a major sequela among survivors. This publication is available in full in Health Research in Africa.
