V62: Reference-field Cosmology — The Continuum of Space via Reference Integration
Abstract
We redefine space not as a pre-existing container but as a rendered state: an estimate continuously produced by an agent that integrates multiple reference signals (light, gravity, and self-motion) under finite bandwidth and latency constraints. We propose a two-stagemodel. Stage 1 (Σ-gate) computes trust weights from reference uncertainties; Stage 2 selects behavior by minimizing an explicit reference cost Cref(D) over distance D from an artificial light source. Numerical experiments reproduce three haracteristic behavioral modes under artificial light—Orbit (stable limit-cycle around line lights), Stall (hovering/instability),and Invert (reference overload followed by crash)—and predict a critical light length Lc separating “orbit phase” from “crash phase.” We further propose a quantitative hypothesis that a substantial fraction of neural energy budget (cf. the ∼ 20% baseline in V18) is allocated to maintaining rendered space via reference updating. When Cref exceeds a supply limit, space becomes ndefined/distorted,manifesting as moth crashes, diver panic, or (speculatively) cosmological singular behavior. This paper provides a unified language linking biological navigation and cosmological metric stability through the concept of reference integration and its minimal sustaining cost.
