Abstract

This Seed Paper introduces the transition from AICICA (AI‑Induced Cognitive Atrophy) to the broader framework of Cognitive Layering. What initially appeared as a decline in human cognitive agency is reframed as friction produced when a single‑layer cognitive society encounters an emergent multilayered cognitive environment shaped by contemporary AI systems. Large language models do not converge on singular answers; they generate parallel worldlines, contextual framings, and value structures. Within such environments, humans shift from producing answers to integrating them, functioning as external cognitive integration nodes. These provisional notes outline the conceptual foundations of a multilayered cognitive society and invite further inquiry, experimentation, and collective refinement.
