The Prism Model: A Biopsychosocial Extension of Romantic Attraction: A Multi-Mechanism Model.
Abstract
This model employs a biopsychosocial lens and clinical reasoning—methodological cornerstones of modern nursing—to bridge the conceptual gap between 1980s psychological frameworks and contemporary sociological critiques of romantic attraction. By applying this systematic approach to human interaction, the model establishes a holistic synthesis of mechanisms that accounts for biological imperatives, internal psychological states, and external social power dynamics—specifically regarding prestige and normativity. Furthermore, it maps the intersection of biological bonding with the sociological realities of queer identity and heteronormative structures.
