Two Layers of Information in the Modern Cell: Prebiotic Memory and the Genetic Code
Abstract
This conceptual essay proposes that modern cells contain two fundamentally different but interconnected layers of information. The first is a prebiotic, physico-chemical layer rooted in the self-organizing properties of matter, such as membrane formation, gradients, and energetic constraints. This layer represents a form of analog, distributed “physical memory” that existed prior to the emergence of genetic systems.
