TractEdit v3.3.0: A Python-based Open-Source Interactive Tool for Virtual Dissection and Manual Refinement of Diffusion MRI Tractography
Abstract
TractEdit is an open-source Python application for interactive visualization, virtual dissection, and manual refinement of diffusion MRI tractography. Key Features: Multi-format support: .trk, .tck, .trx, .vtk, .vtp Whole-brain tractogram visualization with direct VTK rendering and AOT-compiled numerical kernels, optimized for large datasets (>1 million streamlines) Sphere-based streamline selection (add/remove modes) and deletion with full undo/redo support Integrated 3D viewer with linked orthogonal slice views (axial, coronal, sagittal) and Shift+scroll slice navigation Interactive ROI drawing tools (pencil, eraser, sphere, rectangle) with include/exclude logic and full undo/redo support FreeSurfer parcellation support with region filtering, connectivity matrix computation, and export Per-point scalar overlay visualization with customizable colormaps ODF spherical harmonics visualization Track Density Imaging (TDI) map and HTML5 3D scene export Cross-platform: Windows, macOS, and Linux This release includes: Source code Pre-built executables for Windows (.exe), macOS (.dmg), and Linux (.deb, .AppImage) Links: GitHub repository: https://github.com/marcotag93/TractEdit Documentation and sample data available in the repository Citation: If you use TractEdit in your research, please cite: Tagliaferri, M.
