Abstract

This conceptual survey explores the geometric structures arising from symmetry actions on moduli spaces of Higgs bundles for exceptional Lie groups, synthesizing recent work on E_6 and Spin(8,C). Specifically, we examine how outer automorphisms organize these moduli spaces through three interconnected perspectives: the embedding of M(F_4) as a closed subvariety of M(E_6), the characterization of fixed points in M(Spin(8,C)) via spectral data, and the theory of (E_6, rho)-Higgs pairs beyond the adjoint representation. The aim is to emphasize conceptual unity, highlighting how reductions of structure group, invariant polynomials, and spectral geometry provide complementary approaches to the study of the moduli space structure in the exceptional setting.
