Abstract

We formulate a new fundamental principle for describing gravity: Spacetimedeforms in such an optimal way that its response to energy density isalways proportional to 1/(8π). This Principle of Optimal Deformation leads toan effective gravitational constant in the Einstein equations that depends linearlyon local density: Geff(ρ) = G0(1 − ρ/(8πρP )). The constant β = 1/(8π) is notan empirical fitting parameter but arises as the unique value ensuring covariance, consistency with the holographic bound, and solution stability. Empirical validationusing 175 galaxies (SPARC) yields βemp = 0.0385±0.0048, confirming the theoreticalprediction with 0.3% precision. The theory uniformly predicts the galactic scalingrelation Rd ∝ Σ−0.5b, reproduces the dark energy parameters (w0, wa) = (−0.95, −0.30)from DESI, and resolves the H0 tension. We provide a complete variational derivationof the principle, its geometric interpretation, and a set of unambiguous falsifiablepredictions for next-generation experiments. 10.5281/zenodo.18121042
