Manifesto for Control, Mechanism, and Realism Artificial Intelligence and Fundamental Physics
Abstract
This manifesto addresses a foundational conceptual crisis shared by artificial intelligence and fundamental physics: the systematic confusion of behavior with ontology and description with mechanism. It establishes four minimal axioms: the non-agentivity of artificial systems, the dynamic substrate of physical reality, the non-entitization of behavior, and the universality of mechanism across biological and artificial cognition. The document argues that anthropomorphizing artificial intelligence and postulating entities without mechanism in physics are isomorphic errors that undermine control, responsibility, and explanatory power. This work does not propose a new model or theory, but defines strict ontological and engineering boundaries required for safe AI development and for the recovery of mechanism in fundamental physics.
