Technical Report: Dual-Use Potential of the Inverted (Outward-Expanding) Z-Pinch Fusion Neutron Generator
Abstract
This report synthesizes the conceptual design of an inverted (outward-expanding) Z-pinch fusion neutron generator, originally conceived by Gaseous Electronics LLC in their proprietary technical report dated December 12, 2025 (copyright © 2025 Gaseous Electronics LLC; all rights reserved). The technology leverages reversed coaxial geometry and sheared-flow stabilization with axial magnetic fields to produce high-flux 14 MeV neutrons and controlled plasma shocks. While primarily developed for civil applications in ultra-deep oil exploration, adaptations extend to open-field civilian uses (e.g., mining, agriculture) and speculative military applications (e.g., tactical detonation devices). Optimization through design of experiments (DOE) and central composite design (CCD) yields outward velocities >5,000 km/s and neutron fluxes > 1025 n/pulse in simulations, though real-world benchmarks suggest more modest performance. This dual-use analysis highlights transformative potential (10–20× efficiency gains), alongside risks (radiation exposure, instabilities) and limitations (unproven scalability, regulatory hurdles). Prototype validation is essential to mitigate these and transition to deployment. All conceptual claims and intellectual property attributes, including the inverted configuration, are attributed to Gaseous Electronics LLC.
