Λ Constant, Axis Aligned: CMB Anomalies from Topology
Abstract
Three features of the cosmic microwave background---low-ℓ power suppression, parity asymmetry, and quadrupole-octupole alignment---have persisted across COBE, WMAP, and Planck. Often characterized as anomalies or statistical flukes, these features are not anticipated by statistical isotropy. We show that a bounded, non-orientable spatial topology predicts all three from geometry alone, with parameters fixed by independent considerations rather than fitted to data. What has been called the "axis of evil" may be the universe revealing how it began. v3 update: Added explicit citations to Planck, Land & Magueijo, and Copi et al. for CMB anomalies; included reference to COMPACT collaboration's independent work on parity violation from topology; streamlined prose throughout. Core derivations and predictions unchanged.
