Revealit: Uncovering variable sources in UVIT data
Abstract
The detection of transient and variable phenomena in the ultraviolet (UV) bands holds significant astrophysical importance as they provide unique insights into high-energy astrophysical processes. The Ultra-Violet Imaging Telescope (UVIT) onboard the AstroSat space observatory has been observing the skies since 2015, resulting in a rich archive of publicly available data. Although several targeted studies of variable sources have been carried out, there is currently no comprehensive catalogue of transients and variable sources detected by UVIT. We introduce Revealit, a new and efficient tool designed to identify variable sources in UVIT data. We will outline the detection methodology used in Revealit and showcase a selection of novel UV variable objects discovered with Revealit, paving the way toward the first comprehensive UVIT variability catalogue.
