Cataclysmic Variables from the Mobile Astronomical System of TElescope Robots network
Abstract
The study of astrophysical transients has entered a new era with the advent of several advanced ground-based facilities dedicated to both the detection and follow-up of transient events. Among these is the MASTER (Mobile Astronomical System of TElescope Robots) network, comprising seven telescopes strategically located across longitudes from 69°.00W to 127°.48E and latitudes from 57°.03N to 32°.38S. This network is specifically designed for the detection of optical transients. In this talk, we highlight preliminary findings related to a compelling class of variable stars, known as cataclysmic variables, with a particular focus on systems exhibiting extreme amplitude outbursts as observed by the MASTER network. Additionally, we present results from follow-up observations conducted using the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT) and other facilities at the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO), which have enabled a more detailed characterization and deeper understanding of these intriguing systems.
