Abstract

This record presents ICARUS+E, a minimal structural extension of the ICARUS framework obtained by relaxing the constraint of non-evaluativity.The purpose of this extension is not to introduce meaning, reference, or cognition, but to formally characterize the structural consequences of introducing evaluative differentiation into an otherwise dynamically closed, non-representational regulatory system. This version preserves all definitions and results of the original ICARUS+E formulation and adds an explicit laboratory-level diagnostic artifact illustrating the instability of evaluative differentiation in the absence of reference. The results show that evaluative differentiation (E) can exist without reference (R), while also exhibiting a structural pressure toward substitutability across contexts, making reference non-optional for long-term stability.ICARUS+E thus occupies a precise intermediate position between non-representational regulation and architectures that admit reference, without introducing semantics, normativity, or phenomenology.
