Scaleable Furan Nanothreads at 5GPA
Abstract
In summary, this resonant two-photon method unlocks a new regime of cold, scalable nanothread synthesis. It decouples polymerization from extreme mechanical shock by using precise photonic energy, while leveraging sustainable inputs. If successful, it could render traditional carbon fibers obsolete: one obtains ultra-strong, 1D carbon materials with inherent functionalization directly from plant waste. Such nanothreads, woven into the “Hempoxies” composite matrix, would enable the first truly post-petroleum aerospace chassis, marrying top-end performance to a green supply chain.
