(GQR21) Bayesian Thermodynamic Smart Walls for Fusion: A Shield-Law Venting Framework.
Abstract
We propose a physics-aware, event-driven wall architecture for magnetically confinedfusion in which segmented, conductive tiles act as local coherence vents. The scheme couples(i) a macroscopic form of the Shield Law, which balances curvature storage and dephasing, to(ii) a Bayesian controller that decides when, where, and how much auxiliary power to injectinto the wall (magnetic puff or controlled micro-ablation), based on fast coherence proxies:sideband signal-to-noise at a small drive frequency and the flattening of an Arrhenius-typeslope in an edge observable. The goal is to turn “structured chaos” at the edge into a co-adaptive plasmawall dialogue: the plasma repeatedly chooses the same low-entropy vents, while the wall learns those motifs and services them with the minimum joules required torestore a stable, coherent edge. We outline materials stacks, control logic, and a 6–8 weeklinear-plasma demonstration with clear KPIs.
