Geometry, Impulse, and Directed Transport: From Quantum Newton's Cradles to Geometry-Gated Matter (GQR progress summary essay around timepoint GQR22 phase development)
Abstract
Modern physics is rich in dynamical formalisms but comparatively sparse in unifying languagefor how structure alone can bias motion, preserve coherence, and generate directionality withoutinvoking explicit forces or energy gradients. Across condensed matter, atomic physics, chem-istry, and biology, a recurring pattern has begun to emerge: transport phenomena that arebest understood not as motion across landscapes, but as selection among admissible geometricpathways. The purpose of this essay is to articulate that pattern in a unified way, drawing togetherrecent experimental observations with a geometry-first interpretation. No new postulates areintroduced. Instead, we emphasize how impulse-like energy injection, symmetry breaking, andtime-structured gating combine to produce directed transport in systems ranging from ultracoldatoms to molecular networks.
