Abstract

This document specifies boundary conditions, null regimes, and counterexample classes for the structural sensitivity operator Ψ=∂𝑆/∂𝑅.It does not defend the operator rhetorically. It delineates where Ψ applies, where it is zero, and where it is undefined, and formalizes why common objections fail under the Rule–State Separation Axiom (RSSA). --- Intellectual Property & ContactKOGNETIK® is a registered trademark of Serkan Elbasan (Germany). The KOGNETIK Research Series is released under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). The operator Ψ=∂S/∂R captures this directly: it measures the rate at which a system’s structural configuration drifts under repeated activation of its own rules. Process, not state or contentReflexivity is not a special “state”, “level”, or “content” of a system. It is the transformation rule by which structures are modified under recurrence. Any account of “self-reference”, “meta-cognition”, or “feedback” that does not specify how S changes with R remains semantic rather than structural. Domain-independent operator, domain-specific instantiationΨ=∂S/∂R is domain-neutral and applies to biological, cognitive, artificial, social, industrial, and geological systems. Different fields instantiate SSS (e.g., topology, parameters, institutional patterns) and RRR (e.g., firing cycles, training epochs, interaction rounds) differently, but in every domain Ψ quantifies structural sensitivity to recurrence. Non-ascriptive, empirically testable reflexivityBecause Ψ is defined over observable structure and recurrence, it does not rely on ascriptive notions such as “awareness”, “intentionality”, or “meaning”. Reflexivity becomes operational: systems can be compared, tracked, and evaluated by their measured Ψ-profiles without committing to any phenomenological interpretation. All higher-order reflexive phenomena as specifications of ΨHigher-order concepts—learning, adaptation, consciousness, identity, governance, or methodological self-correction—can be treated as structured regimes of Ψ, such as constrained, amplified, stabilized, or recursively modified drift. Thus, Ψ=∂S/∂R is not a model assumption but the minimal functional definition of reflexive systems; all complex theories of reflexivity are specifications or elaborations of this core operator.
