Quantization of the Emergent Time Inflation Model: A Quantum Framework for the Origin of Time and Primordial Fluctuations
Abstract
This work presents the first systematic quantum formulation of the Emergent Time Inflation Model (ETIM), in which physical time is described not as a background parameter but as a dynamical variable encoded in the time intensity \(T(\lambda)\). Starting from a minisuperspace action for the time intensity, we derive the canonical Hamiltonian and obtain a Wheeler–DeWitt–type quantum evolution equation. The semiclassical (WKB) limit of the wavefunctional reproduces the classical ETIM trajectory, demonstrating that classical time emerges as an approximation to the underlying quantum dynamics. We further show that quantum fluctuations of the time intensity naturally generate primordial curvature perturbations and their non-Gaussianity, with the classical ETIM predictions recovered in the sharp-peaked limit of the wavefunction. In addition, we formulate the path integral for the time intensity and show that the origin of time corresponds to a tunneling event through an effective Euclidean barrier. This framework provides a unified quantum-mechanical foundation for the origin of time, the onset of inflation, and the generation of primordial fluctuations.
