The Indus Script as a Non-Linguistic Operational Mark System
Abstract
Abstract (English) This paper presents a structural case study of the Indus Script using MASA (Meaning-Arrangement Structural Analysis).Rather than pursuing linguistic decipherment, phonetic reconstruction, or semantic interpretation, this study deliberately excludes meaning-based assumptions and examines only observable structural properties of the inscriptions. The analysis focuses on positional dependency, termination concentration, iconographic mode variation, and transition constraints. Statistical regularities are demonstrated through terminal distribution heatmaps and protocol-distance clustering, revealing stable termination templates and structurally coherent clusters. These properties are incompatible with known natural language writing systems but are consistent with a non-linguistic operational mark system designed to regulate, validate, or synchronize social and administrative procedures. This work does not propose a reading, translation, or language identification. Instead, it establishes a reproducible framework for analyzing undeciphered materials without speculative interpretation.
