Prevalence and Risk Factors of Hemorrhoidal Disease Among Cadets at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna: A Retrospective Study
Abstract
This retrospective study investigates the prevalence and risk factors of hemorrhoidal disease among cadets at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna. It highlights the impact of military training-related stressors—such as prolonged standing, heavy lifting, and constipation—on the development of hemorrhoids. Reviewing medical records of 140 cadets from 2022 to 2023, the study found a 31.4% prevalence rate, primarily involving mild internal hemorrhoids. The findings support the need for targeted preventive strategies and health education in military populations.
