Two-fluid Multiphase Hydrodynamics Model Solver using the NGSolve FEM Library
Abstract
This repository provides the numerical solver used in the study “Laminar dispersion force effects on two-fluid modelling and simulation of bubble column hydrodynamics” (accepted in the International Journal of Multiphase Flow). The code implements a two-fluid model (TFM) for gas–liquid dispersed flows based on Brennen’s canonical formulation, including drag, lift, virtual mass, and laminar dispersion force closures. The solver employs a discontinuous Galerkin finite element discretization in space and implicit time integration, enabling stable simulation of convection-dominated multiphase flows. The model is implemented using the NGSolve finite element package (https://ngsolve.org/). It supports numerical verification and validation against experimental bubble column data and serves as the computational framework underlying all simulations presented in the paper.
