Conceptual Positioning of Variational Dissipative Conservative Frameworks in Quantum Foundations
Abstract
This deposit contains the paper “Conceptual Positioning of Variational Dissipative–Conservative Frameworks in Quantum Foundations” by Kevin Ellis Anderson. The paper clarifies the conceptual status of variational dissipative–conservative frameworks within the landscape of quantum foundations. Through explicit comparison with Bohmian mechanics, dynamical collapse models, Everettian interpretations, and decoherence-only approaches, the analysis identifies both structural similarities and decisive distinctions. Emphasis is placed on what the framework does not assume or claim. It introduces no stochastic collapse mechanisms, hidden variables, particle ontologies, or many-worlds branching, and it does not modify unitary evolution at the fundamental level. Irreversibility and effective localisation arise dynamically through coupling to dissipative degrees of freedom rather than through axiomatic postulates. The paper also explains why such frameworks do not fall within the classes of theories constrained by standard quantum no-go theorems, due to their structural commitments rather than evasive constructions. By preventing misclassification, this work situates the framework accurately as a regime-based dynamical approach rather than an interpretation or modification of quantum mechanics.
