A Theoretical Model for the Semantic Interpretation of the Smyadovo Inscription
Abstract
English: This study presents a detailed methodological analysis and an alternative reconstruction of the Smyadovo Inscription (5th century BCE), arguing that it contains a coherent eschatological formula. The analysis demonstrates a systematic relationship between the Paleo-Balkan linguistic substrate and the graphic system used in early Old Bulgarian epigraphy. Key Contributions: Graphic Identity: Identification of the grapheme H as the vowel [i] and the archaic Zeta as the sound [zh]. Morphology: Evidence of stable structures like the reflexive pronoun SI and the locative UGUNI (fire), reflecting sacral linguistic conservatism. Reconstruction: "Having completed its path (the soul) for itself, it revived, being sown in the fire".
