Abstract

This report is a foundational positioning document. It does not propose a new learning algorithm, model architecture, benchmark, or empirical result. It does not extend the WorldSeed specification, introduce new axioms, or modify existing ones.It does not advocate adoption, prescribe best practices, or allocate scientific credit. Its purpose is strictly structural. What This Report Is About This report addresses a persistent source of confusion in contemporary artificial intelligence and empirical science: Many debates, evaluations, and controversies are conducted as if all scientific contributions were of the same kind, judged by the same criteria, and eligible for the same forms of comparison and reward. They are not. This report introduces and formalizes a small set of irreducible structural scientific roles (L0–L4) that recur across the history of science, independent of discipline, era, or individual. These roles are not ranks. They are not measures of merit or intelligence. They are functions within the epistemic structure of scientific practice. Confusing these roles leads to category errors, unresolved disputes, and misplaced expectations—especially in AI. WorldSeed’s Structural Position Within this role taxonomy, WorldSeed is situated explicitly as an L0 contribution. An L0 role consists in introducing a new first-class research object—an entity that was previously implicit, assumed, or narratively invoked—and making it explicitly declared, formally constrained, and semantically auditable. WorldSeed does exactly this by introducing the world underlying learning claims as a first-class semantic object. World identity, admissible actions, observers, sensing boundaries, numerical semantics, and irreversible degradation are no longer treated as background assumptions. They are declared, checkable, and subject to semantic verdicts. WorldSeed does not improve model performance. It does not define a learning paradigm. It does not explain intelligence, cognition, or generalization. It defines the conditions under which learning claims are semantically admissible, comparable, or undecidable. Revealed Complexity, Not Constructed Complexity A central clarification of this report is that WorldSeed does not add complexity to AI research. It reveals complexity that already exists, but was previously implicit, distributed across data pipelines, simulators, preprocessing steps, and informal interpretation. What is often called “noise” is treated in WorldSeed as loss of distinguishability induced by declared observers and irreversible projections. What is often called “generalization” is reframed as semantic validity across declared worlds. Nothing ontological is added. What changes is what must be declared. Why This Matters Now Artificial intelligence is the first major empirical field in which: multiple simulators, datasets, and sensing regimes coexist; irreversible abstractions are routine; claims are routinely made across incompatible world assumptions. Under these conditions, implicit world assumptions become a structural bottleneck. Many AI debates do not fail because of lack of data, models, or computation. They fail because they are semantically undecidable under undeclared worlds. WorldSeed does not resolve these debates. It classifies them as NOT COMPARABLE or SEMANTICALLY BLOCKED. Beyond AI Although motivated by AI, WorldSeed is not AI-specific. It occupies an intermediate foundational layer shared by all empirical sciences:the semantic interface between declared worlds and empirical claims. Below WorldSeed lie logic, mathematics, and ontology.Above it lie concrete disciplines and paradigms. WorldSeed neither replaces deeper foundations nor competes with higher-level theories. It conditions claims made at their interface. What This Report Contains A formal L0–L4 role taxonomy (roles, not people); Historical alignment cases (Newton, Turing, Kolmogorov, Curry–Howard); Analysis of award and recognition misalignment as structural, not political; A comprehensive semantic casebook of contemporary AI claims; A catalog of predictable objections and their structural origins. No part of this report is normative beyond WorldSeed itself.Normative authority remains exclusively with the WorldSeed specification, axioms (S1–S19), and reference compliance checker. What This Report Is Not This report is not: a manifesto; a critique of specific researchers; an argument against engineering progress; a claim of theoretical superiority; a substitute for empirical science. It is a structural clarification document. Status This report is complete. It is intended to be: readable without prior endorsement, defensible without persuasion, and preservable as a standalone structural reference. Future work may build on WorldSeed or ignore it.This report does not attempt to influence that choice. It exists to make explicit what was previously implicit—and to stop there.
