Why E₈ + Qutrits? A Structural Rationale for Ternary State Spaces Coupled to Maximal Symmetry
Abstract
This paper presents a structural rationale for coupling qutrit-based ternary state representations with the exceptional Lie algebra E₈ as a constraint backbone for complex, phase-rich systems. Rather than treating qutrits as incremental extensions of qubits or E₈ as symbolic ornamentation, the work argues that ternary local expressivity and maximal global symmetry form a conservative pairing for scaling complexity without degenerating into incoherent interaction “mush.” The framework formalizes SU(3) (A₂) embeddings inside E₈, introduces a Cartan-projected modulation protocol, and demonstrates through worked numerical examples and visual sensitivity analyses how drift mismatch — not absolute drift — drives structured phase differentiation. The contribution is architectural and organizational rather than physical, offering a disciplined design language applicable to computational, semantic, control, and signal-processing domains.
