One Thought Experiment, Two Theories
Abstract
This work compares a simple thought experiment in classical physics and special relativity involving two inertial reference frames and a propagating light signal. By distinguishing between coordinates, physical distances, and clock readings, the analysis highlights a conceptual difference in how the two theories relate the position of a light wavefront to the distance traveled by light. The comparison raises questions concerning the physical interpretation of the time coordinate in special relativity.
