Abstract

This conceptual article presents a reframing of Thai education by arguing that its value has long been constrained within a narrow policy perspective. The education sector in Thailand has frequently been perceived as a resource-consuming and budget-dependent domain rather than as a structural mechanism capable of generating long-term national value. Predominant reliance on quantitative indicators such as graduate numbers, publication outputs, and research commercialisation has contributed to the systematic neglect of cultural, ethical, and human development dimensions of education. Therefore, the concept of an “educational ecosystem in Thai culture” highlights that learning in Thailand emerges not only from curricula and classrooms but from the integration of social values, compassion, relational trust between teachers and learners, and a distinctive culture of cross-institutional academic collaboration. This ecosystem supports holistic human development and provides meaningful educational experiences for both Thai and international students. In conclusion, a policy perspective that formally recognises this culturally grounded educational ecosystem allows Thai education to be repositioned as strategic national infrastructure rather than a fiscal burden. In doing so, education becomes a source of long-term human, social, and diplomatic value, and a powerful form of educational soft power with relevance beyond national borders.
