Abstract

This manuscript presents a rigorous and comprehensive examination of harmonic analysis on reductive algebraic groups defined over global fields, with a specific focus on the spectral decomposition of the space of square-integrable automorphic forms, $L^2(G(\mathbb{Q}) \backslash G(\mathbb{A}))$. We systematically address the convergence properties of the spectral expansion of the automorphic kernel, the analytic continuation of Eisenstein series, and the trace formula's geometric side. The study synthesizes classical results from Tate's thesis and the Langlands program with modern developments in the Arthur-Selberg trace formula. We provide a detailed derivation of the Plancherel measure for the continuous spectrum and analyze the residual spectrum's contribution to the trace. Furthermore, we investigate the regularization of orbital integrals and the implications of the fundamental lemma on the stabilization of the trace formula. By establishing a robust framework for the spectral analysis of adelic groups, this work contributes to the understanding of the interplay between the arithmetic of global fields and the unitary representation theory of reductive groups. The methodology employs advanced techniques from functional analysis, representation theory, and algebraic number theory to resolve ambiguities in the spectral expansion for higher-rank groups. We demonstrate that the decomposition of the $L^2$-space into cuspidal, residual, and continuous spectra is not merely a functional analytic necessity but a reflection of the underlying arithmetic structures governing the distribution of prime ideals and the analytic properties of L-functions. The results herein have significant implications for the Langlands functoriality conjectures and the generalized Ramanujan conjecture. \noindent \textbf{Keywords:} Harmonic Analysis, Adeles, Automorphic Forms, Spectral Decomposition, Trace Formula, Eisenstein Series, Langlands Program.
