Abstract

Abstract Social memory and discourses about music: the case of the Museum of Folk Musical Instruments in Szydłowiec The article is a fragment of a more extensive unpublished research work. The aim of the scientific procedure is to describe the models of social memory contained in the activities of the Museum of Folk Musical Instruments in Szydłowiec. These models were selected during a discursive analysis of texts about music contained in articles and press releases concerning the substantive activities of the institution. The research covers 50 years of the museum’s operation, i.e. the period 1968–2018. Discursive analysis showed that the institution does not adequately support folk memory. This happens during the Polish People's Republic (1968–1990) and in the Third Polish Republic. Folk memory is being displaced by party-state, magnate-noble, liberal, and state-church memory.
