Abstract

Drawing from science fiction, conceptual art, philosophy, anthropology, comparative cognition, computer science, the workshop will present a provocative thought experiment during which participants will explore the possibility of becoming extraterrestrial beings. The workshop is strongly practice based. Guided through a thought-provoking and interdisciplinary process, participants will work in groups, with the objective of composing and decoding simulated extraterrestrial messages. The practice will be informed by cutting edge research in animal studies and philosophy of mind, through an interdisciplinary process, radically questioning notions of intelligence and anthropocentrism. The outcome of the workshop might be presented as part of an artistic event.
