Blue Star + White Dwarf Binaries: Evidence of Completed Stellar Succession
Abstract
Binary systems containing a blue main-sequence star and a white dwarf companion present apparent paradoxes under conventional stellar evolution: the more massive star (blue) appears younger than its less massive companion (white dwarf). The succession framework resolves this paradox: the white dwarf is the first generation star that completed its lifecycle, while the blue star is the second generation—a former sub-threshold companion that achieved ignition through mass accretion during the primary’s death. This study catalogs blue star + white dwarf systems as examples of completed stellar succession.
