Abstract

The rapid adoption of artificial intelligence across corporate, analytical, and professional services sectors has increased the frequency of restructuring, role compression, and job displacement among experienced knowledge workers. Traditional career progression models—built on long-term employment, hierarchical advancement, and institutional security—are becoming less reliable as automation and augmentation reshape how organizations allocate work. This paper examines the emergence of home based businesses as a viable post-AI career path when approached through structured ownership rather than informal self-employment or short-term “gig” work. It distinguishes sustainable home based businesses from hype-driven models by focusing on the governance conditions required for durability: ethical boundaries, repeatable operating systems, financial realism, disciplined customer development, and responsible use of digital tools. Special attention is given to the transition profile of corporate professionals—particularly those from analyst, operational, managerial, and leadership tracks—who often possess strong execution capability yet face predictable friction when moving into owner-operatorship. The paper introduces governance-led entrepreneurship as a practical discipline for converting professional competence into a resilient independent enterprise. This communication is published for educational and analytical purposes, supporting researchers, policymakers, educators, and professionals assessing career resilience strategies in the context of AI-driven labor disruption.
