The Limit Question of Science: On the Origin of Stable Levels of Description and the Boundaries of Disciplinary Explanation
Abstract
This paper examines a systematically recurring gap between levels of scientific description observed across multiple disciplines, including physics, biology, cognitive science, mathematics, and philosophy of science. It is argued that this gap does not result from a lack of empirical data or theoretical refinement, but from the absence of formalized principles describing the origin of the levels of description themselves and the transitions between them. The study formulates the limit question of science as a question concerning the conditions of possibility for stable levels of description and coherent interlevel transitions. The work focuses on the architectural foundations of scientific knowledge and does not propose a new domain-specific theory or rely on metaphysical assumptions.____________________________________________ В работе анализируется устойчиво воспроизводимый разрыв между уровнями научного описания, проявляющийся в различных дисциплинах — от физики и биологии до когнитивных наук, математики и философии науки.
