Disentanglement of Phase Events (DoPE): The Three Modes of Stellar Core Liberation
Abstract
Stellar death produces three distinct remnant classes: white dwarfs, pulsars, and magnetars. Standard models attribute these outcomes to progenitor mass, with higher masses producing more compact remnants. This study proposes an alternative framework based on Disentanglement of Phase Events (DoPE)—the mechanism by which stellar cores separate from contaminated envelopes. The three DoPE modes are: (1) Core Stall, producing white dwarfs through gentle envelope loss; (2) Core Liberation, producing pulsars through violent Action-driven ejection; and (3) Core Fracture, producing magnetars through structural failure during ejection. This framework explains remnant diversity through ejection dynamics rather than progenitor mass alone, and connects stellar death to second generation succession through the Action-Recycling mechanism.
