Ntr vs God
Abstract
This research explores the ancient Egyptian concept of Nṯr—often translated as “god”—and reexamines it as a flexible category of sacred power, principle, or agency. Drawing on the Book of the Dead, Coffin Texts, and linguistic analysis, the study highlights the notion of primordial unity and examines how divine manifestations (Nṯrw) functioned as agents or forces rather than independent deities. The paper also investigates theoretical parallels between Egyptian thought and Abrahamic concepts of angels and prophets, and explores potential conceptual links between Atum and Adam in creation narratives. This work aims to contribute to comparative religious studies, Egyptology, and the understanding of early theological thought.
