IMPLEMENTATION, IMPACT, AND ETHICAL FRAMEWORKS FOR ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEMS
Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) is largely changing the education system by applying adaptive learning, automatedassessment, conversational tutoring and administrative efficiency. The latest surveys reveal a very high usage rate ofAI tools by both students and teachers: 60 % of teachers incorporate AI in their teaching and 89 % of students admitto using ChatGPT for homework. Educational organizations are not hesitating to adopt generative AI, with 86 % ofthem reporting the active use. The evidence from randomized trials and systematic reviews shows that AI-poweredtutors have the ability to significantly enhance the learning outcomes—the students involved in AI-powered programsachieve up to 54 % higher scores than those in the traditional settings and personalized learning can bring aboutimprovements up to 30 %. Nevertheless, the widespread acceptance of AI raises ethical issues related to the privacyof the users, algorithmic bias, loosening of academic integrity and digital divide. Regulatory frameworks andinstitutional policies are having a hard time catching up with the rapid pace of innovations. This article reviews theexisting studies, analyzes the real-life examples, and discusses the ethical issues to present a balanced view of AIpotential in education, as well as, the ways of handling it by teachers and policy-makers.
