Abstract

This repository provides a complete, instructional framework for building an interactive Urban Digital Twin Dashboard using open-source geospatial tools and modern web technologies. Designed for teaching and demonstration purposes at the University of Twente — ITC Faculty, it integrates a Streamlit frontend, a MapboxGL JS 3D mapping environment, and a FastAPI backend to create a lightweight yet extensible digital-twin architecture. The workflow guides users through downloading and processing Landsat 9 Land Surface Temperature (LST) data, converting rasters to H3 hexagonal grids using Tobler, computing zonal statistics, and visualizing results as dynamic 3D extrusions. The platform also enables real-time polygon drawing on the map and backend communication for custom spatial analyses. By combining data processing, visualization, and interactive web components, the repository serves both as a learning environment and a modular template for prototyping urban-analytics dashboards. Participants extend the system through exercises that introduce new datasets, indicators, widgets, and visualizations, fostering hands-on understanding of geospatial digital-twin concepts and toolchains.
