A 3D Shannon--Nyquist Measurement Geometry Foundation
Abstract
We build a \emph{measurement-first} 3D Shannon--Nyquist geometry from the premise that the spatial degrees of freedom of an information-bearing universe are those that can be \emph{resolved} (retained) by a repeatable comparison protocol. Fix as primitive data a self-adjoint measurement operator \(L_{\mathrm{meas}}\) and a resolved sector \(\mathcal W\) (a spectral window). We show that two ostensibly independent protocol probes---edge-transport response and loop-holonomy response---collapse to a single locked scalar invariant, determined functorially by \((L_{\mathrm{meas}},\mathcal W)\). On the edge side, a Shannon faithfulness requirement reduces 3D resolution to three orthogonal 1D Shannon channels, forcing the cubic Nyquist lattice \(a\mathbb Z^3\) and selecting a unique 19-point Mehrstellen Laplacian \(L_{19}\) as the canonical discrete representative of \(L_{\mathrm{meas}}\) within a declared finite-range class. Its symbol determines a York--TT susceptibility \(\kappa_\infty\) and a Fej\'er-locked spectral shift \(L_{\mathrm{eff}}\), yielding a dimensionless \emph{geometric capacity scale}\[\Xi^{-1}=\frac{m\,\kappa_\infty}{\exp(2L_{\mathrm{eff}}/m)-1}\qquad(m=19),\]The \emph{measurement-map hypothesis} (Appendix~C) conditionally identifies this protocol output with $\alpha^{-1}$. The certified, reproducible Python pipeline (Appendix~A) computes $\Xi^{-1}$ for the canonical $(L_{19},\mathcal W)$ case and reports the numerical offset relative to the CODATA~2022 recommended value of $\alpha^{-1}$. On the loop side the plaquette operator is a closed word in the same forced neighbor transports. A first-order expansion shows the holonomy itself satisfies \(H_{\gamma_\varepsilon}=\Id+\mathcal O(\varepsilon^2)\) at the operator level (Proposition~4.15), so every conjugacy-invariant protocol statistic has forced \(\mathcal O(\varepsilon^2)\) onset; trace-cyclicity appears only as a convenient corollary for trace-based functionals. After quotienting by the universal isotropic contraction fixed by protocol-kernel normalisation, the loop sector exports a loop-independent phase-cumulant scalar locked to the edge invariant. All statements are internal to Shannon theory; the conditional identification \(\Xi^{-1}\leftrightarrow \alpha^{-1}\) is explicitly separated as an external measurement-map hypothesis. A reproducibility script repository is cited for numerical evaluation. Note to readers. This work is part of an independent research programme on 3D Shannon–Nyquist measurement geometry, emergent curvature, and projection cosmology. I am not currently affiliated with an institution and therefore do not have a straightforward path to arXiv endorsement.
