Theory Z: An Emergent Vacuum Framework for the Effective Reformulation of String and M-Theory
Abstract
We introduce Theory Z, a non-geometric framework for quantum gravity in which space-time curvature and gravitational dynamics arise as emergent, infrared responses of a scalar-modulated quantum vacuum defined on a fundamentally flat Minkowski background. Nofundamental spacetime geometry, metric quantization, or extended objects are postulated.Within this framework, string theory and M-theory are reformulated as effective geometricdescriptions valid in specific semiclassical regimes, rather than as fundamental ultravioletcompletions.Theory Z provides a consistent reinterpretation of gravitons as collective vacuum ex-citations, extra dimensions as parameters of the effective response space, and branes asnon-fundamental vacuum defects. Dualities are understood as equivalences between effec-tive field-theoretic descriptions rather than as exact symmetries of nature. This approachpreserves the empirical successes of low-energy gravity while avoiding the conceptual andontological difficulties associated with fundamental geometric quantization.
