Leadership Styles influencing the morale of the Millennial/Generation Z employees: A study on the worker of the future in Singapore.
Abstract
This dissertation is on the academic research on leadership and motivation. A thorough literature overview on both the Millennial and Generation Z generation is found in Chapter 2, along with information on societal perceptions, attitudes and behaviours, and managerial issues related to these generation. The motivations for the Millennial and Generation Z generation's attitudes and behaviours, management issues, and how to effectively lead both the Millennial and Generation Z generation are briefly covered in this chapter. An examination of the literature on the type of leadership, transformational leadership, actualized leadership profiling and agile leadership is included in Chapter 2's explanation of the theoretical framework.Since the value of an organization's people resources is its greatest competitive advantage, investing in their motivation is essential to achieving superior operational performance. The motivation of employees and the rewards that go along with it have become a common problem for organizations and management alike since the advent of scientific management about 100 years ago (Hansen, et al., 2002). It is predicted that Millennial and Generation Z will make up more than half of the world's workforce by 2020. Considering this, this study investigates how motivation and related rewards affect Millennial and Generation Z employees in the workplace.
