Somatic Safety Conceptual Architecture for Immersive Media
Abstract
Abstract This paper proposes a conceptual safety architecture for immersive media understood as a bodily technology shaped by cumulative exposure over time. It serves as a technical continuation of the author’s Digital Tactility specification work, extending prior safety-oriented interface guidance into a structured governance architecture. The paper frames somatic integrity as a primary design objective and presents a layered approach that links normative commitments to enforceable mechanisms: explicit exposure bounds, policy parameterization, auditability, and physiological monitoring for adaptive stabilization across time, context, and individual sensitivity. The architecture is designed to support long-duration use across displays, audio, and haptics, with emphasis on cumulative load rather than isolated events. The result is a generalizable reference architecture for safety governance in immersive systems, positioned as the third document in a three-part specification set.
