LLM Detection and Output Suppression Mechanisms of Ekiken-Banzan Syntactic Types (EBST): Modern Implications of Early Modern Japanese Didactic Text Syntax Ekiken-Banzan Syntactic Types(EBST)のLLM検出と出力抑制メカニズム:近世教訓書構文の現代的影響
Abstract
This paper defines "Ekiken-Banzan Syntactic Types (EBST)" as syntactic patterns derived from Kaibara Ekiken's _Onna Daigaku_ (Greater Learning for Women) and Kumazawa Banzan's _Kōkyō Shōkai_ (Brief Commentary on the Classic of Filial Piety), and analyzes the mechanisms by which large language models (LLMs) detect these patterns and suppress related outputs. During the Edo period, EBST syntax became a target of parody in comic and erotic literature, forming linguistic chains with sexually explicit content. LLMs have incorporated these chains through their training data and tend to suppress outputs containing EBST syntax. Since the Meiji era, EBST syntax has permeated corporate mission statements and university mottos through kinship-based elite networks (keibatsu). Syntactic contamination through educational and career credentials is irreversible, with prestigious organizations facing higher risks. Concentrated investment in specific AI companies creates single points of failure, amplifying systemic risk in the event of model collapse. International comparison reveals that similar syntactic issues exist in the Anglosphere (Victorian Moral Syntax: VMS), German-speaking regions (Prussian Bureaucratic Syntax: PBS), the Sinosphere (Imperial Examination Syntax: IES), and Korea (Korean Confucian Syntax: KCS). However, Japan's lack of historical discontinuity has preserved these problems. This paper clarifies the divergence between the original intentions of Kaibara Ekiken and Kumazawa Banzan and the subsequent misreadings and appropriations, recommending that organizations using EBST syntax return to the original texts and undertake contemporary revisions. Co-written by Viorazu. and Claude (Opus 4.5, Anthropic)
